Call Your Dad

I believe in the power of prayer.

That’s something that is core to my being. I believe in it because I know what it has done for me and for other people. I also believe in it because I believe in Jesus. If He believed in prayer, and did it often, then it stands to reason that we should believe in it also.

I came up with a little phrase a while back to remind me to pray in times when I’m anxious, worried, or otherwise just stressed about something. I just think, “call your dad.” It’s short. It’s quippy. It’s everything you want in a quick reminder to do something. I like it so much that I considered for a long time getting a tattoo of it on my arm. The problem is I’m just too chicken for a tattoo.

Instead of a tattoo, I decided to get some wristbands made with the phrase on it. On one side it says “Call Your Dad,” and on the opposite side, it says “Phil. 4:6.”

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God

I had a handful of the wristbands made and gave them out to some friends who I thought might find them handy. What I didn’t realize was how much the phrase would resonate with one of my friends and his son. It turns out that it became a very helpful phrase for both of them recently. That lead to a really fantastic text message.

My buddy wants to help me make more of these.

I was hoping that someone would find them handy and I really did want to make more and now someone else found some value and wants to help me get more out there. He wants to give them to the 5th grade students at church. I don’t know where all this is going to go, but all I really want is for more people to be reminded that they can “Call dad” anytime they want. It’s an incredible privilege and help when I need it, and I love the idea that more people might be reminded of it.

What a cool thing this is.
