I finally did something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and I think I’m glad I made the decision. I’m retiring the 2DorksTV name from the Youtube Channel and from Twitch. It’s been a long time since I’ve had more than one show using the name and even longer since we’ve had more than one of us dorks piloting the ship, so I felt it was time for a change.
Chief among the reasons for this is that it’s difficult to be known across communities that I participate in when I sometimes show up with my name, either SteveHNH or ThatStephenAdams, or sometimes as 2DorksTV. That kind of inconsistency has shown that it really doesn’t give anyone to grab onto when I wander into different communities and try to build some camaraderie with the people there. Anytime I show up, I feel the need to let folks know that I’m the same person behind one of three actual names. It’s tricky for branding.
I don’t want to turn my entire online presence into a brand, but as a content creator you don’t often get the choice. There’s also some stuff that I want to do as myself that would be clouded by having the name of the network showing up all the time. These days I’m only doing a couple of shows and we never really pulled in any external shows to be a part of our little ’network’ and I’ve actually picked up on the fact that it’s not a very serious network if it’s nothing but your own shows. All that kind of leads to this decision. If you’re wondering, it’s important to note that the Legion of Dorks will stick around in the Discord. There’s no reason to change that out given that the community loves it so much and it doesn’t necessarily have to be attached to 2DorksTV for the name to work.
I’m excited about the new introduction and it’s actually got me pretty hyped for some other stuff that I want to do, so keep an eye on the YouTube Channel for some more fun stuff on top of the shows that I already do. I think it’ll be worth it.
What do the kids say? Smash that like button? Yeah. Do that.
